Let Your Life Be Your Legacy
Estate planning and asset protection aren’t exactly the sexiest topics. (And who among us is excited to spend time thinking about our death?)
But you’ve worked hard for what you have. Estate planning ensures that it’s passed on to those who matter most to you, without putting them through years of legal hassles.
And because we take a big-picture view of your legacy, we’ll also help you think about how you most want to be remembered: baking cookies with the grandkids, cutting it up on the dance floor, or making a difference in your community.
The truth is, no two estate plans are the same. But they often include:
- A will that details what happens to your assets and your belongings when you pass
- Trusts that protect certain assets from your estate—for example, setting aside money for a family member until they’re an adult
- Advanced directives that make sure your family and medical professionals know what you want to happen if you’re incapacitated and unable to make decisions
- Planning for anyone in your care, whether that’s an adult family member or a minor child

Your Future Attorney
Amber C. Saunders
My passion for estate planning is personal.
In the early 1900s, my great-grandmother Alice came to the U.S. from Montserrat and, on a maid’s salary, bought two homes in Boston. She passed one to her daughter, my grandmother Dorothea—who was the only person I knew growing up who truly planned ahead.
Dorothea had a will, power of attorney, and long-term care coverage. She even deeded her house to her children while keeping a life estate. When she developed dementia, everything was already in place. There was no stress, no scrambling. Her planning worked.
But then, in just three years, four family members passed—including my Uncle Walter, who didn’t have a will. Maybe he didn’t think he had enough assets to worry about one, or maybe he just procrastinated. My mother had to fly to Boston, hire an attorney, and open a probate estate. It took her roughly three years of back-and-forth airline flights, fighting with creditors, calling the IRS, and paying attorney fees to get the matter resolved. And it left her with barely a moment to grieve the loss of her loved ones.
There’s a happy ending: after several years, the court finally allowed my mother to sell her childhood home and it’s helping fund her retirement. But it didn’t have to be that hard.
That’s why I do this work. Estate planning isn’t just about documents—it’s about peace of mind for the people you love.
